A storm system will slice northeastward across the central Plains into the Great Lakes into Friday night and will bring another round of heavy rain and severe thunderstorms.
One round of thunderstorms rolled across part of the Upper Midwest Thursday night into Friday morning. Another batch of drenching rain and locally gusty storms will affect a large part of the Central states into Friday night.
This storm system will also bring a soaking rain to parts of the Dakotas and Nebraska.

"An isolated tornado threat will exist across northern Missouri and southern Iowa late Friday afternoon into Friday evening as a surface low passes through, generating the potential for rotating thunderstorms," Searles said.
Cities at risk for severe thunderstorms into Friday night include Topeka, Kansas; Kansas City and Columbia, Missouri; Des Moines, Iowa; and Quincy and Peoria, Illinois.
Travel could become dangerous at times across Interstates 29, 35, 70 and 80.
"The main threat farther north across the Great Lakes region will be flash flooding, as storms in this area will have ample atmospheric moisture to feed off of," Searles said.
The area of severe thunderstorms will weaken as they approach Chicago Friday night. The main threat during the overnight will be heavy rainfall capable of localized flash flooding. Those attending any local high school football games Friday night should bring along the rain gear and umbrellas.

Drivers should be alert for any ponding of water on roadways and slow down to reduce the risk of hydroplaning.
Conditions will dry out on Saturday as an area of high pressure builds into the Plains and Upper Midwest. Cooler air will build in for the weekend despite plenty of sunshine.
Temperatures across the region will be more typical of early October than the middle of September.

Conditions will be favorable for anyone heading to any college football or baseball games on Saturday.
As the storm system advances northeastward, showers and thunderstorms will develop from eastern Ohio into parts of Tennessee and Arkansas on Saturday.
Thunderstorms can lead to delays for local college football games on Saturday, including the game in Columbus, Ohio, as Ohio State hosts Northern Illinois.
Cleveland and Detroit will dry out in time for their Saturday night baseball games.
Thunderstorms are not expected to be as severe as those on Friday. Any thunderstorm does have the potential to produce heavy rain and gusty winds.
