Hurricane Jimena Slowly Weakening in the Central Pacific; Adding to Hawaii High Surf

Highlights

  • Jimena has weakened to a Category 2 hurricane after being a Category 4 hurricane from early Saturday morning through early Tuesday morning.
  • Hurricane Jimena is located about 690 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii.
  • Jimena began to weaken Tuesday and will continue to do so, gradually, over the next several days.
  • This system is no threat to land over the next five days as it tracks slowly northwestward, well southeast of Ignacio.
  • Swells from Jimena will reach east-facing shores of Hawaii and continue through the weekend.
  • At one point Saturday evening into Sunday morning, Jimena was one of three Category 4 equivalent hurricanes in the Pacific, joined by Kilo and Ignacio.
