Chill Lingers for Start of Autumn From Paris to Madrid; Heavy Rain From Italy into Balkans

Following a chilly and damp day on Tuesday, the weather will improve across northern Europe for the start of autumn on Wednesday.
While there could be a brief shower in Paris and Berlin on Wednesday, dry weather will prevail for most of the day in both cities.

Locations such as Brussels, Amsterdam and Frankfurt will also experience another day of cool temperatures with isolated showers. Temperatures will be 1-4 C (2-7 F) below normal across the region on Wednesday before more seasonable temperatures return on Thursday.
While an isolated shower cannot be ruled out from Paris to Amsterdam on Thursday and Friday, largely dry weather will prevail across northern Europe from late this week into next week with slowly moderating temperatures.

For those heading to Oktoberfest in Germany, showers will linger through Wednesday before drier weather returns on Thursday and Friday.
Overall, dry weather is expected to prevail from this weekend through most of next week with cool but seasonable temperatures.
By the end of the 16-day festival, an estimated 6.4 million people will visit Munich for Oktoberfest celebrations, according to the Munich City Guide's website.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will move southward causing the heaviest rain to shift into the Alps and northeastern Italy on Wednesday. Rainfall of 25-50 mm (1-2 inches) will fall across northern Italy and western Austria elevating the risk for localized flooding.
Wednesday night into Thursday heavy rainfall will move into Slovenia and Croatia enhancing the threat for flooding in these areas. Rainfall will continue into Friday with totals of 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) expected. Localized amounts over 100 mm (4 inches) are possible.
Flash flooding will be the greatest concern from northern Italy and Austria into the northern Balkans although mudslides will be possible across the rugged terrain of the region.
