Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,March 23,2015

Precipitation is expected to diminish for the Southeastern states on Monday, while rain and snow continues spreading across the Northwest. A strong low pressure system moves onshore from the Pacific Ocean and pulls abundant moisture onshore with it. This system has multiple waves of energy associated with it, bringing rain showers to the Pacific Northwest, Intermountain West, northern Rockies, and spreading into the central Rockies by Monday evening. Heaviest precipitation will develop over northern California and southern Oregon late on Monday. This late season winter storm will bring 6 to 10 inches of snow to the Cascades with snow levels dropping to 4,000 feet, while snowfall totals across Wyoming and Montana will range from 3 to 5 inches above 9,000 feet. Snowfall totals across Utah and Colorado will be light, with only 2 to 3 inches possible at highest elevations by Monday night, but increasing into Tuesday. Expect another 1 to 2 inches of rainfall for far northern California by late Monday night.

Meanwhile in the Southeast, a low pressure system advances eastward and offshore, into the Atlantic Ocean on Monday. The back side of the system may allow for a few more scattered showers to persist for the Carolinas, while a cold front trailing behind this system will produce more showers and thunderstorms across Florida and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico. A ridge of high pressure building in from the north will allow for dry and cool conditions to spread from the Great Lakes and Northeast into the mid-Atlantic states.
