Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,March 19,2015

Heavy rainfall will continue moving across the Southeast and into the mid-Atlantic states on Thursday, while more wet weather moves into the southern Plains from the Southwest. A low pressure system that brought heavy rainfall to Texas will continue sliding eastward and pull more moisture and energy onshore from the Gulf of Mexico. This will produce more moderate to heavy rainfall across the Gulf states and into the Tennessee Valley, with most areas seeing 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain. This system has a history of producing over 2.5 inches of rainfall, so expect isolated locations of Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina to see possibly over 2 inches of rain.

Behind this activity to the west, a trough of low pressure triggering scattered showers over the Southwest continues making its way eastward and into the southern Plains. Expect these rain showers to move into Texas and Oklahoma, while persisting for New Mexico and parts of Arizona.

In the Northwest, a low pressure system spinning in the Gulf of Alaska creates a strong cold front that approaches the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia on Thursday. This will bring some precipitation to far northwestern Washington, with changes of precipitation increasing Thursday night into Friday.

Meanwhile, the Northeast will remain under a ridge of high pressure on Thursday. This ridge centered over the Great Lakes will allow for dry and mild weather to spread across the Great Lakes and Northeastern states.
