Pittsburgh: Storm to Accompany Midweek Warmup

The warmest weather since early February will surge into the Pittsburgh area before midweek with temperatures forecast to reach the middle 40s F.
The warmup will be accompanied by a storm. That storm will spread a swath of ice across the area Tuesday morning, before transitioning to rain.
However, enough icy mix can occur prior to the thaw to create slippery roads and sidewalks. Flight delays may linger past the wintry precipitation, due to low cloud ceilings and perhaps fog.

Temperatures will stay above freezing Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Just enough cold air will slosh back into the region Wednesday evening into Thursday for a trailing storm to attempt to throw snow back into the region.

Several inches of snow could accumulate with the storm just past midweek.
Temperatures will dip late in the week, causing areas of slush and standing water to freeze.
Rather than long-duration episodes of sub-freezing air with sub-zero overnight lows, temperatures will average only a few degrees below normal late this week.
A spring fever alert may be needed next week with temperatures forecast to be above average for a number of days.
Normal average temperatures trend upward by a degree every two to three days during March. The average temperature for March 8 ranges from a low of 27 F to a high of 46 F.
Temperatures on some days next week may reach the 50s or higher.
Area rivers will have to be watched for possible ice jams with the upcoming warmer weather forecast.
Until all of the piles of snow are gone, there will be issues with patchy black ice during the nighttime and early morning hours.
