February 2015 has come to an end with numerous monthly records set across the United States.
Many locations across the Midwest and Northeast set monthly records for the cold that dominated the February as warmth prevailed in the West.
February 2015 has also entered record books in southern New England and Colorado's Front Range after the onslaught of snowstorms.
The following is a sampling of the monthly records broken this month.

It was clear to see how the weather varied across nation by considering the records broken in both Portland, Oregon, and Portland, Maine. Last month is now the coldest February on record in the latter Portland, while the warmest in the former Portland.

"The brutal month of February in the East was caused by a semi-permanent ridge of high pressure near California and the Great Basin that caused a flow of air directly from the Arctic," stated AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Mark Paquette.
Cities in the I-95 corridor also fell short of setting a monthly record for the cold.
While March is starting with additional winter storms targeting the Midwest and Northeast, cold in the East will not be the rule as the month progresses.
"Changes are in the cards for March as Pacific air is mixed into the flow across the nation," Paquette added. "Thus, the arctic air in the East will be slowly eroded."
