Flooding Rain For Argentina This Week

April 6, 2014; 9:56PM,EDT

The summer months have come to an end for Argentina and rainfall is typically heavy at this time of year in the Buenos Aires area, however, rainfall for the next few days could be over 6 inches (150 mm) around the capital city.
Rain is very common in central Argentina during March and into April with March being the rainiest month, on average, for Buenos Aires. The rain in March totaled over 5 inches (130 mm), and additional rainfall will be moving through over the next several days.

A stalled front just to the south of Buenos Aires is set to bring rainfall from through Wednesday as the front remains over the area and may bring a flooding threat over the next few days.
This actually is coming at a time of year when farmers do not want the rainfall as the crops are set to be harvested. This is some fertile land over central Argentina and this could affect the crops that are left in the fields.
Rainfall of over one inch (25 mm) fell in Buenos Aires in only 6 hours Saturday afternoon. The rain is continuing to push through Saturday night and into Sunday and may bring rainfall of over 2 inches (50 mm) in just the first day of this rain alone.
The rainfall for the beginning and middle of the week looks to be quite heavy from Buenos Aires southward to Bahia Blanca.

The heaviest rainfall over the next few days looks to come later Monday through Tuesday as the front finally gets pushed off to the east. This final bout of rain could make for more flooding over central parts of the country.
Drier weather finally looks to come in for later in the day Wednesday and Thursday with cooler air coming in from the south and west. This will come as a welcome relief of the rain we will see through early next week.
