11 Lost and Hidden Treasures That Could Make You Very Rich

Real-Life Indiana Jones Wants You To Find His Loot

The Fenn Treasure, reportedly worth $3 million, was hidden by art dealer and writer Forrest Fenn in the Rocky Mountains. According to Fenn, many people have claimed to have found the treasure but none have provided any proof. As of 2014, it still has not been found.
Everyone has fantasized about becoming fabulously rich overnight. Many a dreamer has even devoted money, energy, or perhaps a lifetime, to chasing after pirate gold or lost mines.
In most cases, "X" didn't mark the spot for these adventurers, which means undiscovered riches are still out there.
Professionals and hobbyists continue the search today, often relying on high-tech gadgets, rumor and a lot of luck. Treasure hunter Sean Carney told USA Today that he generally brings a metal detector, shovel, extra clothes and rain gear on trips, among other tools. In a more high-tech example, one engineer developed snake-like robots that penetrate the ground to find treasure on Cocos Island.Tech aside, hunters say research is also key to finding leads and some treasures have more clues than others — such as the treasure hidden by eccentric multimillionaire Forrest Fenn.
In the 1980s, a bout with cancer inspired Fenn to create a chest full of treasures that anyone could go find. His plan was to hide it in the desert before he died as a way to keep his memory alive, according to Hemispheres Magazine.
Only Fenn didn't die. So when he turned 80 in 2010, Fenn decided to hide the chest again, this time somewhere in the mountains north of Santa Fe, N.M. The treasure chest is said to contain ancient artifacts, gold nuggets and precious jewels estimated to be worth $3 million. Clues to the chest's whereabouts are hidden in the text of a memoir and poem he published that same year. Over the past four years, thousands have searched to no avail, but Fenn insists the treasure is still out there.
