WeatherWhys for August 2,2013

The frequency of fog is on the rise from August through October. The reason fog becomes more common heading into the fall is because nights are growing longer while there is still quite a bit of moisture contained in the surface air. The most common fog is radiational fog. That is short for fog that forms when the air temperature cools to the dew point during the overnight hours.
