It will be a wet start to the PGA Championship today, but the good news is that conditions will improve by the weekend.
This year, the PGA Championship is being held at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.
A cold front swinging through the Northeast will spread showers and thunderstorms across New York today; however, most of the storms will be found in the eastern part of the state.
A shower or thunderstorm will be around the Rochester area throughout the day, but most of the day should be rain-free.

These showers and storms can cause more challenging conditions for the golfers, affecting different aspects of their game. Gusty winds during storms can easily change the trajectory of a golf ball in flight, while a wet ground can affect the way the ball rolls after it lands.
Lightning can be especially dangerous for not only the the golfers but also spectators.
Most lightning-related deaths occur in open fields and under trees. If you are outside and can hear thunder or see lightning, you should seek shelter until the storm passes over.

Conditions will improve on Friday for golfers and spectators alike as drier air moves in behind the cold front, bringing an end to the showers and thunderstorms.
Although drier conditions are expected for the second round of the championships, winds will pick up slightly during the afternoon.
