Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday,August 3,2016

Active weather will impact the northern tier of the country on Wednesday, while monsoonal thunderstorms persist across the Southwest.

A low pressure system will shift eastward from the upper Intermountain West to the northern Plains. This system will collide with warm and humid air over the central third of the country, setting the stage for strong to severe thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in North Dakota, northern South Dakota and northwest Minnesota. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also affect portions of the central Plains and the Midwest.

Meanwhile, the remnants of a frontal boundary will generate rain and thunderstorms in the Deep South and the southern Mid-Atlantic. Most of New England and the northern Mid-Atlantic will avoid wet weather, although scattered showers and stray thunderstorms will be possible in New York and northwest New England.

Out west, monsoonal thunderstorms will continue to affect the lower Intermountain West, the Desert Southwest and parts of the Great Basin. There will be a threat of flash flooding for southwest Colorado, western New Mexico and Arizona, especially along slope terrain.
