Cooler Atlantic air to stifle heat across the UK in September

Following several stretches of unseasonable warmth in August, cooler Atlantic air will suppress most surges of heat across the United Kingdom in September.
Air masses arriving from the Atlantic will limit the threat for any heat waves while also keeping temperatures generally within a few degrees of normal for all areas.
While an odd warm day or two are possible, especially across southern England, most days will feature temperatures close to normal.

The normal high temperature in London ranges from 19.4 C (67 F) at the beginning of the month to 16.1 C (61 F) at the end of the month. Normal high temperatures in Manchester fall from 18.9 C (66 F) to 15.6 (60 F) by month's end.
A stormy pattern during the first half of the month will result in no prolonged periods of dry weather and keep warm air in France.
The threat for a powerful storm system to arrive during the middle of the month could cause even cooler air to be pulled into the U.K. from the north. This could result in a several day stretch of below-normal temperatures.

A period of more tranquil weather is possible toward the end of the month. However, even a several-day period of above-normal temperatures will lack any significant heat.
Overall, an unsettled autumn is expected across the United Kingdom.
