Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,August 22,2016

A frontal system will shift across the East Coast on Monday, while a ridge of high pressure breaks down over the Northwest.

An area of low pressure will move eastward over eastern Canada. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend southwestward from New England to the southern Plains. As this frontal boundary pushes eastward, it will produce rain and embedded thunderstorms across New England, the northern Mid-Atlantic, the Deep South and the southern Plains. Prolonged heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to northeast New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, western Maine and central Texas. High pressure will usher cool and dry air over areas west of the frontal boundary. Temperatures are expected to drop 5 to 10 degrees below normal across the upper Midwest, the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England.

Meanwhile, monsoonal moisture will stay in place over portions of the Southwest. Daytime heating will help trigger afternoon and evening thunderstorms across the southern Rockies and the Desert Southwest.

High pressure will break down over the Northwest as a cold frontal boundary moves across the region. Scattered showers will be possible in the northern Rockies, focusing over the northern tip of Idaho and northwest Montana. The majority of the West Coast will stay clear of precipitation on Monday.
