Rio 2016: Warmth to unfold for Summer Olympics opening ceremony

The world will turn its attention to Rio this week as the 2016 Summer Olympics kick off on Friday, Aug. 5.
As spectators and athletes pack Maracanã Stadium for the opening ceremony, warm and dry weather will make for ideal conditions.
The outdoor venue seats roughly 78,000 people.
Temperatures will be slightly higher than normal for the first day of Olympic activity. Daytime highs typically hit in the mid-70s F (around 24 C) during this time of year, but temperatures will reach close to 80 F (27 C).
By the time the ceremony starts at 8 p.m. local time (7 p.m. EDT), temperatures will fall into the lower 70s (near 21 C).
"It will feel a bit humid for those heading to the ceremony," AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Miller said.

Brazilian musicians Anitta, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil are scheduled to perform. More than 6,000 volunteer dancers will perform throughout the ceremony.
The ceremony's creative directors planned the entire show using less than 10 percent of the budget of the last summer Olympic opening ceremony in London.

"I guess I'd be ashamed to waste what London spent in a country where we need sanitation, where education needs money," Fernando Meirelles, one of the directors said.
As events kick off over the weekend, the dry and warm weather will continue, Miller said.
Temperatures will rise into the low to middle 80s F (27-29 C).
