Heat, humidity to make brief comeback in northeastern US late this week

Summertime heat and humidity will return to the northeastern United States at the end of the week.
High temperatures will stay in the low to mid-80s F across the region through Thursday, before a brief burst of heat and humidity arrives on Friday.
"Temperatures across most portions of the Northeast will peak on Friday, with highs ranging from the upper 80s to low 90s," AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rathbun said.

Humidity, sunshine and other factors will push AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures closer to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas.
The mainly dry conditions accompanying the surge of heat will give area residents an excellent opportunity to head to the local lake, pool or beach.
The greatest threat for a thunderstorm to spoil part of Friday will exist across the Appalachians and western Pennsylvania and New York.
While most highs will range between 4-8 degrees Fahrenheit above average on Friday, they will fall about 5-10 degrees shy of record levels, Rathbun said.
"It will not be unbearable like the heat during the second half of July," he added.

During the third and fourth weeks of July, high temperatures flirted with or reached the century mark in several places across the Northeast.
The recent rain events will help to hold temperatures back this time around, according to AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok.
The surging heat will also be rather brief, lasting "for only a day or two," Pastelok said.
In areas from New York to northern New England, the heat is expected to only last on Friday before a front arrives with clouds and wet weather on Saturday.

Warmth will hold into the start of the weekend across the mid-Atlantic.
Behind the front, "a prolonged period of refreshing weather is in store from Sunday to the middle of next week," Rathbun said.
Near-seasonable temperatures and lower humidity will highlight most areas across the Northeast to start the second week of August.
Another surge of 90-degree weather is likely during the second half of next week into the following weekend.
