Parts of the Midwest and northern Plains will be the focal point of stormy weather through the balance of the week as rounds of thunderstorms move through the region.
The events on Tuesday will be far from a severe weather outbreak, but some of the thunderstorms from eastern Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, southward to northern Illinois will still produce frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds.
Minneapolis, St. Cloud and Duluth, Minnesota; and La Crosse and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, could be hit by thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. The storms have the potential to disrupt daily routines and rush hour travel.
While the storms will be fairly isolated, some of the stronger storms may lead to minor property damage, broken tree limbs and sporadic power outages.
A more concentrated area of heavy storms will focus on portions of Iowa, Missouri and western Illinois into Tuesday evening. Flash flooding can occur where the storms repeat or linger. The greatest threat of flash flooding extends from near Des Moines, Iowa, to the St. Louis area.

Additional rounds of thunderstorms are expected to impact the area through the second half of the week as a cold front sweeps across the region.
Wednesday's severe weather will be mainly confined to the Dakotas, but the severe weather threat could shift back into Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois by Thursday.
These storms will likely be more violent than those on Tuesday, bringing the potential for powerful wind gusts and possibly isolated tornadoes.
