Tropical Storm Hermine impacted the Southeast on Friday, while a Pacific system moved onshore over the Northwest.
Hermine was downgraded to a tropical storm early Friday morning as it moved northeastward across northern Florida and southern Georgia. This system brought very heavy rain and strong thunderstorms to portions of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Tropical storm warnings were issued from eastern Georgia to southeast Maryland. Greenville, N.C., reported a midday total of 6.89 inches of rain. Eastover, S.C., reported a midday total of 4.94 inches of rain. A cool and dry weather pattern prevailed across most of the Midwest and the Northeast as a Canadian high pressure system shifted over the region. Tomahawk, Wis., recorded a morning low of 34 degrees. Iron Mountain, Mich., recorded a morning low of 39 degrees.
Meanwhile, isolated showers and thunderstorms popped up across the Desert Southwest, the lower Intermountain West and the southern high Plains. Flood advisories were issued in parts of central and northern Arizona. A weak frontal system also generated scattered showers from the upper Intermountain West to the northern Plains. Just to the west, a trough of low pressure moved onshore over the West Coast. This Pacific system brought much cooler weather to the Northwest on Friday. Light showers also moved onshore over parts of northwest Oregon and western Washington.
