Hurricane Paine is expected to curl northeast toward Mexico's Baja California, while weakening to a tropical storm and eventually a remnant low into Wednesday.
Although Paine is not forecast to make landfall as a tropical storm in the Baja peninsula, it could bring tropical storm-force winds to a portion of the coast. For this reason, a tropical storm warning has been posted from Punta Eugenia to Cabo San Quintin.
Some moisture from Paine will be pulled into the Southwest U.S., enhancing shower and thunderstorm activity on Tuesday.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
- Paine was located about 285 miles west-southwest of Cabo San Lazaro, Mexico, as of Monday evening.
- The hurricane is not expected to gain any additional strength, and should weaken to a remnant low by Wednesday.
- Paine's circulation center will never impact land directly before it fizzles, although tropical storm-force winds are possible in the tropical storm warning area.
- Some moisture from Paine will get drawn northward into the Southwest U.S. early this week by an upper-level low off the coast of California. This may lead to an uptick in shower and thunderstorm chances into Tuesday over far southern California and the Desert Southwest.
