A low pressure system will move across the Northeast on Wednesday, while a Pacific system develops over the Northwest.
A robust area of low pressure will transition northeastward from the eastern Great Lakes to southeast Canada. This system will usher moderate to heavy snow and freezing rain over northwest New England. Light to moderate snow will affect the upper Midwest and the interior portion of the northern Mid-Atlantic. A mixture of rain and snow will develop along coastal regions of the northern Mid-Atlantic, as well as a large portion of New England. A cold frontal boundary will extend south and westward over the East Coast, the Southeast, the northern Gulf of Mexico and the western Gulf Coast. Rain and thunderstorms will fire up over the southern Mid-Atlantic. Light rain will also be possible along the southern tip of Texas.
Meanwhile, a weak area of low pressure will shift east southeastward over southwest Canada, the upper Intermountain West, the northern Plains and the middle Mississippi Valley. Precipitation associated with this system will be generally light. A swath of snow will spread across the northern Plains and the western half of the upper Midwest. A mixture of light rain and snow will affect the eastern tier of upper Intermountain West and the central Plains.
Out west, a Pacific cold front will swing across the Pacific Northwest and northern California. Light to moderate precipitation can be expected over western Washington and western Oregon during the first half of Wednesday. By the afternoon and evening, moderate to heavy rain and high elevation snow will move onshore over northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Light to moderate precipitation will also push eastward into the upper Intermountain West.
