Severe Storms Leave Damage in the South; Tornadoes Confirmed in Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas

A round of severe weather Wednesday night spawned an EF2 tornado that left damage to several mobile homes in northwestern Arkansas, injuring at least two people.
The storms are on the warm side of Winter Storm Selene and are expected to move east through the South Thursday and Friday. The storms also dropped damaging hail in North Texas Wednesday night.

Here's a closer look at the impacts from this severe weather so far.

Arkansas

Two people were injured in Crawford County when their mobile home was destroyed by severe weather Wednesday night, according to KFSM-TV. Witnesses said the mobile home was blown off its blocks and the couple was thrown more than 100 feet. They were treated for minor injuries, the report added.
Thursday a survey team from the National Weather Service confirmed they found EF2 tornado damage in Washington County from Wednesday's storm.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said at least seven homes were damaged and one was destroyed by the tornado, but nobody was seriously injured, according to a separate KFSM-TV report. The Red Cross set up a shelter at the Evansville Fire Department for residents of those damaged homes, the report added.

Louisiana

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF1 tornado hit the town of Lake Charles Thursday morning. A damage survey found maximum wind speeds of 100 mph with the tornado that was in progress for just over a tenth of a mile.
During its short life, the twister left damage near the intersection of Taylor and Roosevelt streets, but no injuries were reported, according to KSLA.com.

Texas

Residents in North Texas were assessing the damage after a hailstorm came through the area Wednesday night. The city of Plano was hit especially hard, where hail damage was widespread to skylights and vehicles in the area, the Dallas Morning News reported. Hail up to 2 inches in diameter fell on the area during the storms, damaging many windows in an apartment complex near the Duck Creek Golf Club in Plano, the Dallas Morning News also said.

Several other homes were struck by lightning during the storms, the report added.
North of Fort Worth, an EF0 tornado was confirmed in the town of Haslet, the NWS said. It was in progress for two minutes Wednesday night and had maximum winds of 75 mph, according to the damage survey. Minor damage was reported with this twister.

Florida

An 18-wheeler blown over during a storm shut down northbound I-65  near the Florida and Alabama border Thursday, according to NorthEscambia. The truck was overturned at the 63-mile marker between Atmore and Flomaton and traffic had to be diverted.
The National Weather Service's Melbourne office reported that golf-ball sized hail was produced by the severe storm system. Locals in affected areas such as Palm Bay took to social media to share photos and videos of the onslaught.

Alabama

During an intense thunderstorm Thursday, a Greyhound bus went into a ditch and was overturned on Highway 84, reports The Southeast Sun. The incident occurred on the eastbound highway near the Choctawhatchee Bridge and resulted in four people being sent to a local hospital.
Two of those injured are believed to be in critical condition, The Sun also reports. The driver was unharmed and several other passengers sustained minor injuries.
