Rain and thunderstorms to dampen Southeast through Thursday night

A developing storm system will spread rain and even a couple of thunderstorms over the Southeast on Thursday and Thursday night.
Motorists traveling on Interstates 20 and 40 should be prepared for wet roads and poor visibility.
A few thunderstorms are also likely along the Gulf Coast, but widespread severe weather is not expected.

While heavier downpours will be fairly isolated during the day on Thursday, a steadier and heavier rain will develop in the eastern Carolinas on Thursday night as the storm strengthens along the coast.
Areas from Norfolk, Virginia, down through North Carolina's Outer Banks can expect to have 1 to 2 inches of rain on Thursday night into early on Friday.

In these areas, ponding of water on roadways is likely due to the heavier rainfall rates.
This developing storm system is the same one that will help produce accumulating snow farther north in the mid-Atlantic states.
As the storm system pulls away, sunshine and dry weather will return to a vast majority of the Southeast on Friday.
