Rain and snow continue across the UK in the wake of Storm Jake

More unsettled weather is on the way in the wake of storm Storm Jake, which battered the United Kingdom with rain, snow and wind on Wednesday.
A new storm will spread rain into northern Ireland on Thursday afternoon before racing southeast into Wales and England on Thursday night.
Cold air in place ahead of this storm will set the stage for a burst of snow across the Midlands and higher terrain of Wales.

Locations above 150 meters (500 feet) can get 2-8 cm (1-3 inches) of snow on Thursday night with local amounts up to 15 cm (6 inches).
The lower elevations may receive snow at the onset of the precipitation, before a changeover to rain occurs overnight.

Giant fireball spotted over Scotland

Snow will continue across the higher terrain on Friday with some minor settling as rain tapers to showers in the lower elevations.
A shot of chilly air following this storm will trigger wintry showers across Scotland and northern England on Friday afternoon and Friday night. These wintry showers will continue into the weekend, while expanding across the rest of the U.K.
No widespread settling of snow is expected from Friday night into the weekend; however, the higher terrain may receive the occasional fresh coating of snow.

While there may be an odd snowflake in Greater London, rain will be the primary precipitation type this weekend.
A period of rain is expected from Thursday night into Friday morning with scattered showers lingering into the weekend.
High pressure will bring largely dry weather to the United Kingdom early next week.
