Boston: Impending Storm to Bring Coastal Rain, Interior Snow

Boston faces a disruptive winter storm and travel woes Tuesday through at least Wednesday.
A couple of rain or wet snow showers late Monday afternoon and Monday night will give way to soaking rain on Tuesday. The heaviest rain will pour down during the second half of the day. Periods of rain will persist through Wednesday.
Those planning for any ground or air travel in and around the city should prepare for some delays.
The downpours alone will reduce visibility and heighten the concern for vehicles traveling at highway speeds to hydroplane.

"Enough warm air will wrap into this storm that we're talking about mainly rain this time around in Boston," said AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Brian Thompson.
Coastal flooding may also occur on Tuesday and Wednesday around the times of high tide.
Stubborn cold air will allow a wintry mix to last longer through Tuesday morning in the northern and western suburbs.

"The threat for a heavy, wet snow will target parts of the Poconos and Catskills through northern New England," said Thompson. The heavy wet snow could be enough to bring down trees and power lines across the interior.
The storm impacting the Northeast this week will not be quick to leave, causing additional rain showers to persist into Thursday.
