Typical Winter Cold to Avoid Boston Until Next Week

While blustery winds will howl on Christmas Day, Boston will continue to escape more typical winter cold until next week.
Drier air will work into the Boston area by the afternoon of Christmas, replacing the soaking rain and flood threat from Christmas Eve.
Blustery winds will usher in the drier air, gusting to 40 mph at times and creating significantly lower AccuWeather.com RealFeel® temperatures.
Minor tree damage and sporadic power outages can result.

Some residents may find it hard to believe that Thursday is actually Christmas Day with arctic cold and snow missing, and that will be the theme right through this weekend.
Contrary to Christmas Eve, Friday and Saturday will be great for travelers and shoppers.

Some residents and visitors may want to take advantage of the mild temperatures these days and spend some time outdoors.
Temperatures are set to approach the 50-degree mark, which would be about 10 degrees higher than highs that are more common for late December.

The mild weather will persist through Sunday before a cold front swings through and opens the door for noticeably colder air to arrive on Monday. Even colder air will likely plunge in as 2014 transitions to 2015.
AccuWeather.com meteorologists will be monitoring the possibility for a winter storm to usher in the midweek cold blast.
