Harrisburg: Mild Veterans Day to Precede Late-Week December-like Cold

November 10,2014; 8:55 PM,EST

Mild weather will be a precursor to a prolonged period of colder weather that is expected to arrive in the Northeast later this week.
The first half of the week looks to be quite mild across the Harrisburg area with high temperatures running a few degrees above what is typical for mid-November.
Veterans Day will be the warmest day of the week with temperatures rising well into the 60s.

Dry weather, light winds and a blend of sunshine and clouds will be a welcome backdrop for any outdoor activities on tap during the first part of the week.
However, warm coats, gloves and scarves should be kept close by. A December-like chill is expected to settle in across the region by the weekend.
Arctic air will be steadily surging south and east into the eastern two-thirds of the country, as the polar vortex dips toward the north-central United States. While the cold will not be severe in the Eastern states, this air mass will usher in the lowest temperatures of the season so far for the Northeast.

Highs are forecast to be mainly in the 40s on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. However, the combination of temperature, wind and other conditions will make it feel even colder. Check the AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures before heading out later this week and into the weekend.
As the cold air moves in and after it becomes established, there is a significant chance that one or more storms with wintry precipitation will affect the Central and Eastern states late in the week through early the following week.
