In recorded history, there has never been a more intense tropical system
than Typhoon Tip from October 1979. Second on the list, which is ranked
by pressure, is Hurricane Wilma from October 2005. The pressure within
Typhoon Tip dropped down to 870 mb as winds howled up to 190 mph. The
pressure of Wilma bottomed out at 882 mb.
