Soggy Early Monday Morning for Pittsburgh

By , Senior Meteorologist
October 6,2013; 5:36PM,EDT

Monday will start on a soggy note in Pittsburgh with a dry rest of the week to follow.
An approaching cold front will be responsible for spreading a band of rain through Pittsburgh early Monday morning, including during the morning commute.
Some moisture from Karen, now a tropical rainstorm, will also be in place.
The rain will be heavy at times, threatening to slow down motorists by reducing visibility and heightening the risk of vehicles hydroplaning at highway speeds.

Umbrellas will be a necessity for those traveling by foot, while airline passengers catching morning flights out of Pittsburgh International Airport could encounter delays.
The rain will generally total 0.50 to 1.00 inch in less than six hours. There will be locally higher amounts, and that is where AccuWeather.com meteorologists will be most concerned for flash flooding to occur in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Such locally higher amounts will be most likely over the Laurel Highlands to the east of the city.
Monday morning's clouds and rain will give way to some sunshine for the afternoon. A shower or two will lightly dampen Pittsburgh in the afternoon, but should not be enough to force officials to delay Game 4 of the NLDS between the city's Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Monday is shaping up to be Pittsburgh's coolest day in two weeks as temperatures will spend most of the daylight hours in the 50s with a low of 45 degrees to follow at night.
Abundant sunshine and seasonable temperatures will follow for the remainder of the week.
