Saturday's Severe Storms to Rattle Chicago to Little Rock

A potent storm will continue its march across the central U.S. on Saturday, re-igniting severe thunderstorms out ahead of it across the Great Lakes to northeastern Texas.
Major cities in the path of these storms include Milwaukee, Wis., Madison, Wis., Chicago, Ill., St. Louis, Mo., and Little Rock, Ark.
Damaging winds and drenching downpours are the biggest threats with these storms as they rumble across the region. Small hail is also possible.

This is the same storm that brought gusty winds, hail, flooding rain and a tornado outbreak to the central U.S. on Friday.
Multiple tornadoes spun across southeastern South Dakota, northwestern Iowa and northeastern Nebraska on Friday evening injuring at least 14 people and damaging multiple structures.
A farmhouse in Wayne County, Neb., was destroyed, allowing cows to run loose along the highway. A vehicle was also flipped upside down.
A tornado outbreak is not expected on Saturday, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The main threats will be gusty winds and torrential rain.
Thunderstorm wind gusts topped out above 60 mph in several locations, including a 70-mph estimated gust near Monroe, Iowa, on Friday morning.
This powerful storm also brought blizzard conditions to Wyoming and South Dakota.

The ingredients for more severe weather on Saturday still remain. The collision of chilly air arriving from the West with warm, moist air in place over the lower Great Lakes and Ohio Valley will provide a suitable environment for more storms.
Winds may gust between 40 to 60 mph, but isolated higher gusts are possible. Trees and power lines can be brought down with this kind of strength. Power outages are possible and motorists should keep an eye out for downed power lines.

Flooding issues may arise as well, as torrential downpours batter areas. Ponding of water and quick rises in streams and small creeks should be expected.
College football games may be impacted as storms roll through. Folks heading to the Ohio State and Northwestern showdown could encounter strong storms. Arizona State and Notre Dame's game may also be impacted.

The severe potential is expected to gradually taper off late on Saturday night. Another round of strong storms is expected to impact Buffalo, N.Y., to Nashville, Tenn., on Sunday. Gusty winds and drenching downpours will again be the concern.
