"Last night's showing was very impressive, and very rare," AccuWeather.com's Mark Paquette said. "It was at least as good as, ironically enough, Oct. 1 of last year and probably better."

Some AccuWeather.com Astronomy Facebook page fans were able to snap these impressive photographs of the lights. People who missed the display last night may have another chance to view them on Wednesday but will likely not see a show on the same scale.
"Very rarely do you see an event last long enough to make two nights in a row like last night," Paquette said.
Tuesday night, the lights were seen as far south as Kansas and Kentucky. Wednesday night, they will only extend to northern Iowa. Many of those areas will be blocked from viewing the phenomenon by dense cloud cover, but sightings may be possible for parts of Michigan, Ontario and Quebec. Better conditions will be overhead for northern New York and New England.
