Weather Underground midday recap for Friday,October 18,2013.
A long
cold front moved through the eastern third of the country Friday,
bringing scattered rain mostly through the Northeast and New England.
This rain moved through the area and diminished in the afternoon as the
front itself moved off the coast.
Meanwhile, another storm tracked through the Midwest and Plains. The
center of the storm moved through Wisconsin and produced some rain
showers, while the cold front introduced a mix of heavy rain and snow
from Oklahoma through Kansas and northern Missouri. This cold front also
preceded cold air that was expected to push several areas well below
freezing from eastern New Mexico through most of Kansas.
A high pressure system remained in control of the weather in the western
half of the country, providing dry and regionally warm conditions. Much
of California and the Southwest rose into the 80s.
The Northeast rose into the 70s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in
the 80s and 90s. The Northern Plains and Northern Rockies rose into the
30s and 40s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
