Weather Underground midday recap for Tuesday,October 15,2013.

A cold frontal boundary stretched from the southern Plains to the upper Midwest on Tuesday, while a ridge of high pressure brought clear conditions to most of the West Coast.

Cloudy conditions lingered in parts of Washington on Tuesday as very light showers fell along the coast. Oregon, California, Nevada, and Arizona experienced clear, dry conditions as high pressure continued to build over California. Temperatures were in the 60s and 70s along the coast, while the inland deserts and valleys experienced temperatures in the 80s. To the east, cold, windy conditions lingered in the Intermountain West, the northern Plains, and the central plains as freeze warnings were issued in several states. Light snow showers also fell in the central Rockies during the early morning. West Yellowstone, Montana reported a morning low of 12 degrees, while Stanley, Idaho reported a morning low of 15 degrees. Thermopolis, Wyoming recorded wind speeds of 41 mph Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, an extensive cold front pushed showers and thunderstorms into the southern Plains, the Mississippi Valley, the Ohio Valley, and into the upper Midwest. The heaviest rain fell in Arkansas and Texas, as flood warnings were issued throughout the two states. Mena, Arkansas reported a midday total of 3.76 inches of rain, while Sonora, Texas reported a midday total of 1.82 inches of rain. The eastern third of the country avoided precipitation on Tuesday, besides spotty showers that occurred in southern Florida.
