The chilliest air of the season so far will yield frosty mornings around Charlotte, N.C., and surrounding communities through Saturday morning.
Folks heading out in the mornings may need to scrape the windshield and warm the car up for a few minutes beforehand.
In the coldest spots, temperatures can dip below freezing with the coldest morning likely to be Saturday throughout the region.
In perspective, the earliest the temperature has dipped to or below 32 degrees at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, N.C., was October 9, 2000, when the low was 31 degrees.
Tender potted plants should be brought indoors. Plants worth salvaging in the ground should be covered.
A large area of high pressure will drift southward from the Midwest and is forecast to settle over the interior South.

It will not be until later in the weekend when temperatures will begin to rebound.
As a consolation to the chilly air, much of the time will be free of clouds right through Sunday.
