The arrival of cold weather in Boston will coincide with the start of the 2013 World Series, potentially impacting the baseball game.
The city's Red Sox will take on the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday evening.
Chilly air will arrive during the daylight hours of Wednesday, while a developing storm with rain brushes the Northeast coast.
Light to moderate rain is expected to brush Boston during the afternoon and evening hours, with some rain expected to linger at the start of the game. The rain will add to the chill.
"It's always extremely rough to warm up when it's cold out, and especially to feel the baseball," Meteorologist and former Penn State Pitcher Mike Pigott said. "Keeping your hand warm is probably one of the more important things when pitching when it's cold outside."
Pigott said the cold is the toughest weather to play baseball in, and it can even impact the type of pitches thrown.

Temperatures for the first pitch could rival some of the lowest readings in Series history, if it rains a great deal in the afternoon, cooling the atmosphere.
There is a slight chance of wet snowflakes mixing in with rain showers early on Wednesday evening over the hills west of Boston. Odds favor dry weather for most of the game as the storm heads away.
The chill that follows for Thursday and Friday will create daytime highs near 50 degrees with nighttime lows within a couple degrees of 40. AccuWeather.com RealFeel® temperatures will be even lower as brisk winds blow.
