Widespread, and in some cases, record-breaking warmth has gripped the United States during the past several weeks. More mild temperatures are in store for portions of the West, Midwest and South during the week ahead.
But on the other side of the Northern Hemisphere, cold and snowy conditions have dominated parts of Asia and Europe in recent days. Here's a look at where the cold and snow have been.

Northern Hemisphere Temperature Overview
The temperature regime we've seen recently in the Northern Hemisphere is similar to what we'll see this week.Below is the departure from average temperatures across the globe for the week ahead through Friday. Colder-than-average temperatures are forecast to dominate the Northern Hemisphere in Russia and parts of Europe, while North America and the Arctic continue to stay above average, overall.

Russia
Russia has been one of the epicenters of the recent cold and snow in the Northern Hemisphere.At the end of October, Siberia likely had its greatest extent of snow cover since 1998.
Moscow's Domodedovo airport reported at least light snow every day from Oct. 29-Nov. 7, including a burst of heavier snow late Sunday into Monday.

Germany
Snow fell in parts of Germany over the weekend and into Monday, including in the southern Germany village of Holzkirchen where the photo below was taken. Just north of that village, Munich saw a mixture of rain and snow on Monday morning.The season's first snow also fell in the west Germany town of Freudenberg, the Taunus region near Frankfurt, and several other locales.

France
Snow was reported at Paris' Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports Monday morning before turning to rain as temperatures warmed.Ski resorts in the French Alps saw more significant snowfall during the weekend, the thelocal.fr reported.
United Kingdom
Cold and snowy weather moved into portions of the United Kingdom during the weekend, and is expected to continue early this week.The Pennines and Scottish Mountains are among the locations that have seen snowfall.
Snow coated the Cairngorms of Scotland starting late last week. Roads were closed in the area by the snow over the weekend, the BBC reported.

Northern Japan
Sapporo on Japan's Hokkaido Island saw its heaviest early November snow in 21 years this past weekend, according to Robert Speta, a meteorologist with NHK World TV in Tokyo.Just under 8 inches, or 20 centimeters, was measured in Sapporo, Speta said.
Sapporo seen over 20cm of snowfall this past weekend, making it the heaviest snow in the city in early Nov. in 21 yrs.
