A surge of warm air will help keep snow away from the Northeast and could challenge some records across the South this week as November comes to a close.
A major storm system is set to develop across the central U.S. early this week and will help spread warm air across the South, Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic, and Northeast through the middle of the week.
"This storm system will bring a persistent southwesterly flow, which will spread very mild air across the East," AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson said.
Afternoon temperatures will run between 5 and 10 F above average across these areas. However, some places across the South could reach as much as 15 degrees Fahrenheit above their normal high between Monday and Wednesday.
Temperatures will climb well into the 60s in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. Tuesday and Wednesday and perhaps even into the 70s in the nation's capital. New York City could see several days in the 60s as well.
A widespread area of afternoon temperatures in the 70s will be observed across the Southeast on Tuesday and Wednesday with a few places reaching 80.

This could be enough to put temperatures near-record levels across the Southeast. Cities such as Columbia, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia, will be within a couple degrees of daily record highs. However, most places will fall short of breaking records.
"With numerous storm systems moving through, the mild air will be accompanied by clouds and rain much of the time," Thompson said.
This will put a cap on the warmth and may prevent folks from heading outside to enjoy the warmer air.
Mild air will struggle to reach much of New England by midweek due to clouds and rain. Temperatures will be around average on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The warmth will keep the threat for snow away from the Northeast through the rest of November as cold air mainly remains locked up across Canada. However, some of that air will spill into the Plains this week and will help bring accumulating snow to several states.
"The pattern will slowly shift toward a more favorable one for cold in December, " AccuWeather Long-Range Meteorologist Ed Vallee said.
"While the Northeast will turn cold during this time, the coldest air will be centered across the Midwest, Plains and Rockies," Vallee noted.
