Weather Underground Forecast for Friday,November 18,2016

A low pressure system will impact areas from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast on Friday, while a Pacific system affects the West Coast.

A strong area of low pressure will move northeastward from the central Plains to the upper Great Lakes. This system will produce strong winds and moderate to heavy snow along the eastern tier of the northern Plains and across the northwest corner of the upper Midwest. A mixture of rain and snow will develop in other portions of the Midwest as cold air settles in over the region. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend south southwestward from Iowa to southern Texas. As this frontal boundary transitions eastward, it will generate a line of showers and thunderstorms extending from the Midwest to the Gulf Coast. These storms will develop over the middle Mississippi Valley, the Ohio Valley, the Tennessee Valley, the lower Mississippi Valley, the southern Plains and the western Gulf Coast. High pressure should keep conditions dry from the Southeast to New England.

Meanwhile, a low pressure system will push east northeastward toward the coast of British Columbia. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend southwestward. Moderate to heavy rain and mountain snow will develop ahead of this frontal boundary over Washington, Oregon and northern California. Winter storm watches are in effect for the southern tier of the Cascades. High pressure over Baja California should influence a dry weather pattern over most of the Southwest.
