A potent storm system will bring rain and wind to parts of Germany this week, along with the threat for snow in higher-elevation areas.
The storm racing from the North Sea into northern Europe on Wednesday and Thursday will push disruptive winds and a soaking rain across northern and eastern Germany.
The combination of rain and wind will likely cause travel delays from late on Wednesday into Friday morning. Areas at greatest risk for delays include Hamburg, Berlin and Dresden.

Wind gusts as high as 80 km/h (50 mph) are possible in these areas with the peak gusts expected late on Wednesday night through Thursday.
“Gusts could be strong enough to cause damage to trees and result in power outages,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys said.

While no flooding is expected, rainfall of 6-12 mm (0.25-0.50 of an inch) will be common across northern and eastern Germany.
This storm system will deliver milder air throughout Germany, bringing an end to the recent spell of abnormal chill. However, the relief will not last.
High temperatures will climb to around 7-8 C (45-46 F) in Berlin on Thursday before another cold shot arrives this weekend. High temperatures are expected to reach only 2-3 C (36-37 F) both days.
Snowfall will generally be limited to the higher elevations with 2-8 cm (1-3 inches) expected across the Ore Mountains, Thuringian Forest and Bohemian Forecast. Some of highest elevations could get as much as 15 cm (6 inches) of snow by the end of the day on Friday.
In the lower elevations, a few wet snowflakes are possible from Berlin to Dresden on Wednesday afternoon and again late on Thursday night; however, no lasting accumulation is expected.
