While a tranquil pattern will unfold for the first half of December, stormy conditions could make a comeback in the United Kingdom in time for the holidays.
An area of high pressure will set up over northern Europe for much of December, resulting in below-normal precipitation across the United Kingdom.
While this area of high pressure will shift at times during the month, the main storm track will feature storms tracking to the south across France and the Iberian Peninsula.
“Even though there will be a lack of storminess across the United Kingdom for much of December, southern areas will be most at risk for damaging winds” AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys said.

The first half of the month is expected to be free of widespread flooding or damaging winds across the United Kingdom.
The area of high pressure will weaken during the second half of the month, opening the door for Atlantic storms to return to the U.K. in time for holiday travel.

This weather pattern will bring more frequent rain and wind. However, whether or not any major wind storm impacts the U.K. will depend on the exact track and intensity of the storm systems.
"Even with a turn toward more unsettled weather during the second half of the month, drier-than-normal weather will prevail across the majority of the United Kingdom during December as a whole," Roys said.
While December is expected to yield fewer than normal unsettled days, a shift toward wet and windy weather is expected during the month of January.
