Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, December 2,2014

A strong Pacific system will impact the West Coast on Tuesday, while a cold front will shift across the East Coast.

A strong low pressure system will move eastward over the coast of California. This system will usher moderate to heavy rain across drought stricken areas of the California. Heavy rain will bring a threat of flash flooding to southwest California. In addition, high elevation snow showers will affect the Sierra Nevada, as winter storm watches are already in place across the mountain range. Light to moderate rain will also develop over portions of Oregon. By the late afternoon and evening, precipitation will spread across the Great Basin and parts of the central Rockies. A mixture of rain and snow will develop over the Great Basin, while snow showers can be expected across the Rockies. Washington will stay mostly clear of precipitation on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, arctic air will continue to plunge southward over the northern tier of the country, stretching from the Pacific Northwest to the upper Midwest. Scattered snow showers will be possible over northeast North Dakota and northern Minnesota.

To the east, a cold front will slide eastward over the Deep South, the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic. Temperatures are forecast to drop 10 to 20 degrees across the eastern third of the country. Scattered showers will develop across the Deep South, the Tennessee Valley, the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic. In addition, a mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow will be possible from West Virginia to New England.
