Weather Underground Forecast for Friday,December 19,2014

A strong Pacific system will impact the West Coast on Friday, while a separate system will develop along the Gulf Coast.

A cold front will slam into the western third of the country on Friday. This system will bring moderate to heavy rain to northwest California, Oregon and Washington during the first half of the day. By the afternoon and evening, light to moderate rain will spread across central California, the Great Basin and the upper Intermountain West. High elevation snow showers will affect the northern Sierra Nevada, the Cascades, the northern Great Basin and the northern Rockies. High pressure will keep conditions relatively clear across the Southwest and the southern Rockies.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will deepen over the Gulf Coast. During the morning, this system will focus over the western Gulf Coast. bringing rain and thunderstorms to southern Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley. As this system shifts eastward, rain and thunderstorms will slide across the Deep South, the central Gulf Coast and the Tennessee Valley. In addition, there will be a chance of mixed precipitation over the middle Mississippi Valley. To the north, cold, dry conditions will persist over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest on Friday.

A separate low pressure system will move northeastward over southeast Canada. Scattered snow showers will trail this system over the interior Mid-Atlantic and parts of New England. The remainder of the East Coast will stay clear of precipitation.
