A low pressure system will linger over the Northeast on Thursday, while an unsettled weather pattern will persist over the West Coast.
An area of low pressure will inch northeastward over northern New England and southeast Canada. As this system draws moisture from the Atlantic, a mixture of coastal rain and snow will develop across New England. Interior New England will experience moderate to heavy snow showers. Scattered light snow showers will trail this system across portions of the upper Midwest and the interior Mid-Atlantic. Weather conditions will remain relatively calm across the southern Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast.
Meanwhile, a wave of low pressure will slide eastward over the central Plains and the middle Mississippi Valley. An onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will interact with this pocket of energy, triggering rain and thunderstorms over the western Gulf Coast and the southern half of Texas. There will also be a chance of mixed precipitation over the southern and central Plains, as well as the the middle Mississippi Valley and the Tennessee Valley. In addition, light snow showers will continue to develop across the southern and central Rockies.
Out west, widespread light showers will be possible over the Pacific Northwest, the Great Basin and the Southwest. A strong Pacific system will approach the West Coast during Thursday evening, ushering moderate to heavy precipitation across western Washington, western Oregon and northern California.
