Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,December 11,2014

A very strong Pacific system will impact the West Coast on Thursday, while an area of low pressure will inch across the Northeast.

A low pressure system over the eastern Pacific will shift east northeastward over the Pacific Northwest. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will drift over California, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to the region. The strongest winds and heaviest precipitation will impact northern California, especially along the coastal mountain ranges. This cold front will tap into a plume of moisture over the eastern Pacific, which will prolong heavy rain across central and northern California. Flash flooding will be possible across a large span of coastal California, as flash flood watches are already in place across much of the region. In addition, blizzard warnings are in place across the northern Sierra Nevada as heavy snow showers will impact the mountain range. Gusty winds and moderate precipitation will also spread across the Pacific Northwest, the upper Intermountain West and southwest California on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a separate area of low pressure will move slowly northeastward over New England. Mixed precipitation will develop across New England, while light to moderate snow showers can be expected over the interior Mid-Atlantic. Wet weather will also linger over the northern Mid-Atlantic.

An onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will continue to trigger showers and thunderstorms across portions of central and eastern Texas, as well as the lower Mississippi Valley on Thursday.
