Following benign weather this weekend, a major storm will affect Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, much of the East and Midwest on Christmas Eve.
Fairly seasonable temperatures are forecast for the region through this weekend. Typical highs for the third week in December are near 40 F.
The pattern will allow at least partial sunshine each day through Sunday and generally good conditions for travel and shopping excursions.
As one weak storm passes too far south to bring much in the way of precipitation on Sunday, a second, weak storm may be more successful in bringing rain to the area Monday afternoon into Tuesday. While the weather may not be ideal for travel these two days with the possibility of fog, it will likely be much better than on Christmas Eve.

A major storm is forecast to affect the Central and Eastern states on Christmas Eve with the potential for major travel disruptions. The storm is forecast to bring a surge of mild air with strong winds and drenching rain to the Atlantic Seaboard, but there will snow, increasing wind and colder air sweeping across the Midwest.
By Christmas Day, colder air will reach the East on gusty west winds, but odds are against accumulating snow in the area.
The ups and downs of temperatures this December will continue through the storm around Christmas Eve, before colder air settles and becomes more persistent for the end of 2014.
Temperatures thus far this December have averaged about 1 degree F above normal (30-year average) compared to the first three weeks from last December and during this November. Temperatures averaged 1.8 and 3.8 F below normal respectively for Harrisburg.
