As millions of people prepare to travel for the winter holidays, wet weather in the Northeast may make some travels problematic.
Monday appears to be the best day for travelers across the Northeast before travel conditions gradually deteriorate heading into the Christmas holiday.
Rain, drizzle and fog are forecast to spread over the region on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's major storm, reaching from Baltimore to Boston.
Milder conditions will accompany Tuesday's wet weather with temperatures running as much as 10 degrees higher on Tuesday than Monday.

Precipitation may start off as a period of freezing rain early on Tuesday morning in areas that are still at or below freezing. However, this will be brief as the milder air moves in, melting any icy surfaces.
Morning commuters and holiday travelers can track the precipitation with AccuWeather.com MinuteCast™. MinuteCast™ gives you a minute-by-minute forecast for your exact location, letting you know when the precipitation will begin.

Areas of fog may also develop as the mild air lifts over the region, causing slower traffic on the roadways and some flight delays at the airports.
Travelers should consider planning ahead for these delays, allowing for extra time to reach your destination.

A much steadier rain is expected to fall over the Northeast on Wednesday as a potent low pressure system affects the region.
While the worst travel conditions are expected over the Midwest, torrential downpours, gusty winds, and even a few thunderstorms can still cause significant issues for those in the East.
There is some good news though for holiday travelers.
Dry conditions are expected to build in following Christmas Day, allowing for more favorable travel weather for those returning home in the days following Christmas.
