Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,November 13,2014
A cold front will move over the eastern Pacific on Thursday, while snow showers will develop across the Great Lakes region.
A cold frontal boundary will approach the West Coast on Thursday. Moderate to heavy precipitation will develop across northern California and Oregon, while scattered showers will be possible over Washington and central California. There will be a chance of freezing rain over the Washington and Oregon Cascades as this system interacts with a cold air mass over the region. The higher elevations will have a chance of late evening snow showers. As this precipitation spread across the Intermountain West and the Great Basin, heavy snow showers will develop over the northern Rockies. In addition, light snow showers will be possible over the Great Basin and the central Rockies. A persistent ridge of high pressure will keep conditions mostly dry across the Desert Southwest.
Temperatures will remain 20 to 40 degrees below normal over the central third of the country due to an arctic high pressure system over the region. The coldest temperatures will focus over the central and northern Plains, as well as the upper Midwest. Additionally, lake effect snow showers are forecast for the upper Midwest, the Great Lakes and the Northeast.
Meanwhile, a pocket of energy will trigger wet weather across the western and central Gulf Coast. As this energy lifts northeastward, afternoon and evening showers will develop over the southern Appalachians and the Mid-Atlantic. .
