As snow exits southeast New England, snow will continue over Maine through the overnight.
The system that dove south and brought record-setting snowfall to parts of the Southeast on Saturday made a turn to the north and brought snow and high winds to New England on Sunday.
A strong low pressure system continues to strengthen as it swings northeastward towards Nova Scotia.
Rain and snow will slowly move away from southern New England but snow will persist over Maine for the majority of the overnight. Winds will remain breezy across the Northeast and New England through the overnight.
Wind gusts up to 40 mph will blast Boston and New York City through the overnight. Wind gusts up to 30 mph were observed during the New York City Marathon Sunday morning.
A 68 mph wind gust was reported Sunday morning in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Snowfall impacted portions of eastern Massachusetts including the city of Boston where a measurable snowfall caused roads to be slushy and slippery on Sunday. The snow moved eastward out of the area just in time for the Broncos/Patriots kickoff in Foxborough, Mass.
Accumulating snowfall will remain confined over Maine throughout the overnight, with the heaviest amounts falling across interior Maine into New Brunswick. Some areas could see storm total snowfalls of 6-10 inches.

This early season wet and heavy snow combined with strong wind gusts should not cause a major concern for trees as most of their leaves have already fallen across Maine. However, the weight of snow and forceful wind gusts could still snap some trees and cause sporadic power outages.
