Pittsburgh: Winter Storm Precedes Rapid Freeze

By , Senior Meteorologist

A complex winter storm will kick off what will be a frigid week, complete with a rapid freeze and the harshest cold since last winter, around Pittsburgh.
The steadiest snow associated with the storm will remain to the north and west of Pittsburgh, impacting Columbus, Ohio, and Erie, Pennsylvania.
Commuters around Pittsburgh should still expect a wintry mix to create slick and slow travel Monday morning.
As the storm system departs and brisk winds pick up, a couple of snow showers will follow for the afternoon and evening. Such snow showers can accumulate a few inches in the Laurels.

AccuWeather.com meteorologists are concerned that as temperatures continue to plummet during the evening and overnight hours of Monday any lingering wet or slushy areas will quickly freeze.
Any untreated roads or sidewalks would become icy and treacherous for motorists or those walking by foot.
A couple of additional snow showers will fly on Tuesday, which will prove to be the coldest day since last winter.
