Heavy Rain, Localized Flooding to Soak Eastern US This Week

November 2,2014; 9:30PM,EDT

After a cool weekend, a storm system will move across the eastern United States this week and could bring localized flooding from Texas to Maine.
Many locations along the East had temperatures 5-15 degrees below average for the beginning of November as an area of high pressure brought cold Canadian air to the area. This cold air even brought some accumulating snow to portions of the Southeast and heavy snow to Maine.
As this high spreads eastward towards the western Atlantic Ocean, winds will shift to the south early this week bringing in warmer air from the Gulf of Mexico as temperatures return to more seasonable values.
While temperatures will rise early in the week, an area of low pressure and cold front will move across the Rockies to the Plains where it will pick up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and initiate heavy rainfall across the South.

The heaviest rainfall will occur on Tuesday across portions of Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas where some areas could receive over 2 inches.
This heavy rain could cause localized flooding in poor drainage areas, but it will bring relief to the drought, especially over Oklahoma and Texas.
This front will continue eastward on Wednesday as heavy rain will impact the Southeast. Additional moisture from Vance in the Eastern Pacific could assist in the heavy rain threat.

Heavy rain could impact Louisiana on Wednesday and portions of Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama late Wednesday into Thursday.
As it moves across the Southern states, a new area of low pressure is forecast to form across southern Louisiana late Wednesday and will move northeastward toward the mid-Atlantic and Northeast for the end of the week.
