Summer officially begins Saturday, June 21 at 6:51 a.m. EDT. However,
that only pertains to astronomical summer that starts when the sun is
directly over the Tropic of Cancer. Meteorological and solar summers are
already underway. Meteorological seasons are based on daily normal
temperatures, while solar seasons are based on the amount of sunlight
entering the Northern Hemisphere.
